Who will David Beckham play for when he leaves LA Galaxy?

David Beckham has announced that he will be leaving LA Galaxy in December and this has led to a host of clubs wanting the former England captain.

Beckham, has been at the club since 2007 and has played 116 games for the club scoring 20 goals so he has been a decent servant to the American side and he did capture the attention of the public when he first went over there. It is unclear now whether it will create more interest in the sport over there, because it is not as big as in Europe and this transfer was trying to make it more of a competitor to the likes of basketball and American Football. During his time there he went on loan twice to AC Milan, so maybe the Italian team would have him back on a permanent basis, but to me, this seems unlikely and I think he may be after a completely different challenge.

PSG are the clear favourites at the moment to sign the midfielder and that is because they can offer him a wage that cannot be matched by many other clubs in the world, apart from possibly Manchester City. Which is a club I am fairly certain he will not be joining. The French club though want success and are trying to sign a lot of big names to get them to the very top and competing with the likes of Barcelona. It would be strange if he did sign for them because he is getting old now and I don’t think he is the type of player they should be looking at. They need players that can come in and improve over the next few years, although saying that Beckham’s experience around the dressing room could make all the difference.

Personally, I think he will go out and try somewhere completely different because he has accomplished a lot in Europe and has stated before that the only English club he will play for is Manchester United. There is a small chance they could sign him but they already have Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes in their midfield so it doesn’t seem likely that Alex Ferguson will sign another over 30 player.

A few players are going to China at the moment and maybe he wants to try over there and see if he can make an impact. For purely commercial reasons, he would be a success and he would probably make an impact in the leagues so this could be an option for him. But, from the early odds it looks like he may be going over to Australia with Adelaide United and Melbourne Heart strongly linked with him. Beckham, is a legend and he will be a success anywhere he goes, both on and off the pitch, so if these teams are serious about signing him then they may have to pay quite a high wage but they will surely get a lot of their money back just from shirt sales and other merchandising opportunities.

Emeli Sande proving different can be successful

Emeli Sande could be the breakthrough artist of the year with her incredible album ‘Our Version of Events’

Sande started work on this album when she was only 11 years old

The album was released on the 13th February and has been to the very top of the UK Album Charts as well as faring quite well in America reaching number 28 on the Billboard 200. This is not something you really expect to hear at the top of the charts in the year 2012 as recently music has been more about getting up and dancing with a lot of energy to their songs but this is more like music of old and has brought poetry back to music. Most of the best songs are simple and this is what Sande has tried to do with this album by using her voice as the main effect and having a simple melody behind. You can tell she is influenced heavily by soul music and it really comes out at times during the album and you can really feel how meaningful the lyrics are to her. The most important thing to her in her songs is clearly getting the message of her lyrics across and is just as important as the tune, there is a definite passion and desire in her voice and this is seen in the songs ‘My Kind of Love’ and ‘Breaking The Law’. ‘Breaking The Law’ in particular is a very fascinating song and can mean many different things to people, it could be about a partner or a family member and it just shows how much some people will do for their loved ones.

The single, ‘Heaven’ is an epic pop song that will get audiences to throw their hands up in the air and sing along and will be heard over and over again in the years to come I am sure and it was named the record of the week by Fearne Cotton when it was released.

Most of the songs on the album are about love and romance but if you take the time to look deeper into it, you can tell it is much more complex than that and tries to explain complicated emotions, the song, ‘Maybe’ is an example of this as it is about after a break up thinking whether someone is the love of your life or not which is obviously difficult to explain but Sande is a very talented storyteller and does it well.

Some people may find the album boring and not be able to listen to the whole thing through at once because it can be a little too much of the same as their isn’t a massive amount of change but to me if someone has a s good a voice as her why try and make it about anything else. ‘Next to Me’ reminds me of old soulful house music and with it’s beautiful harmonies I can see this being many people’s favourite song on the album and is just another example of her amazing voice and you have to remember this is only the beginning and she will hopefully grow and get better and better.

Will comedy music become mainstream?

Comedy music can come in many different forms such as parodies of popular songs, novelty songs, comedy rock and comedy hip hop and is just seen as a bit of fun but is it now actually becoming something that a lot of people will listen to?

The Midnight Beast seem to have alerted everyone to their music with their TV show and are now starting to make an impact on the ITunes charts as well as getting praise from other artists. The group from London have been getting positive reactions from not only the general public but also the people that they are parodying. ‘Tik Tok Parody’ reached number 90 in the UK and even Ke$ha stated on her website that it was even better than her version. Surely then it is only a matter of time before they bring out a song that will go right near the top of the charts? On YouTube they have over 300,000 subscribers and and a combined 50 million views on their channel which just shows how popular the group are and now with their TV being out, I expect their album which is due out on the 13th August to be a massive success.

Stefan, Dru and Ashley are hoping to make it big in the UK

However, it is easy to say they will be a success and its clear people like their songs but that doesn’t mean people will want to pay for them. If they do need to loom somewhere for inspiration then Weird Al Yankovic is certainly someone that has made a living out of parodying songs and writing his own comedy songs as he has sold over 12 million albums and received four gold records and six platinum records in America.

‘Weird Al’ even reached the top 10 of the Billboard 200 in 2006 with his album ‘Straight Outta Lynwood’ with even the title of his album being a parody of N.W.A’s album ‘Straight Outta Compton’. Even the single ‘White & Nerdy’ (a parody of Ridin Dirty by Chamillionaire) reached number 9 and it just goes to show that comedy can make a mark on the charts.

The Lonely Island are probably the most similar to The Midnight Beast in America and they have had even more success some would argue than ‘Weird Al’ as they have collaborated with a lot of artists including T-Pain, Akon, Justin Timberlake, Rihanna and Natalie Portman. These are some huge artists in the world of music, with the exception of Portman who is an actress. They, like The Midnight Beast first started off on YouTube but they have quickly grown into a well known group all around the world.

There are plenty more examples of music being influenced by comedy, for example, Tenacious D use a lot of jokes in their songs and they in my opinion would fit into the bracket of comedy rock along with Bloodhound Gang (although they are less ‘rock’). The list does go on and they are getting huge numbers of hits on YouTube like Flight of the Conchords.

That could be part of the problem though people want to have a laugh listening to their songs but do they really want it to come on whilst listening to their iPod on shuffle? My guess would be no and that is why it is difficult just to focus on the music and a lot of the ‘singers’ have to do other things such as TV work or even just be a comedian and use music in their work such as Bo Burnham and Tim Minchin.

Who will Michael Owen sign for?

Michael Owen has left Manchester United and will be looking for a new club this summer with many teams surely interested in his services.

Michael Owen wore the famous number 7 shirt at Manchester United

After bursting on the scene with Liverpool, he has been considered one of England’s greatest strikers with his fantastic movement and unrivalled finishing ability. Since leaving Liverpool he has had an indifferent career with his move to Real Madrid ending after only one season for one reason or another. He was still quite a consistent goal scorer in Spain with 13 goals in 36 league games which was quite impressive especially considering a lot of these appearances were from the bench. He left the Spanish giants for Newcastle United and his time there has been criticised a lot by the Geordie faithful as he seemed more interested in picking up his wages than actually helping the club. His commitment was often questioned and as soon as the club were relegated he was leaving and there was no chance of him sticking around. However, he did get 30 goals in 79 appearances which convinced Alex Ferguson to sign him up for three seasons. At Old Trafford, he was largely an unused substitute but he still contributed in particular the winning goal against Manchester City in the sixth minute of injury time.

He does not want to retire so he needs a new club but will anyone in the Premier League take him on or will he need to go back abroad? Stoke City are currently the favourites to sign him and that would be quite a signing for the team and would surely give the squad a much needed a lift after a disappointing end to the season. He would provide that little bit of extra quality that Stoke need to lift them into the European places and possibly a good cup run. Owen would simply just give them a different option as they wouldn’t be able to pump it straight up to him. In my opinion he would work  well alongside Peter Crouch with his movement and Crouch’s ability to win the ball in the air. He would definitely benefit from Matthew Etherington’s crosses and would score a lot of headers for the team.

His boyhood club Everton are also linked with him and that would be a really good move for both him and the club. He could start up a very good combination with Nikica Jelavic and they would grab a lot of goals between them. David Moyes would love two strikers that can score consistently which he hasn’t always had during his time at Everton. Owen, I think would enjoy playing for Everton because of their quality in the midfield with players like Darron Gibson, Marouane Fellaini and Leon Osman able to play killer through balls. The only problem is his wages, would he be prepared to drop them or would Everton have to break their wage structure to sign him?

However, it wouldn’t surprise me if he just went to the MLS and picked up a huge way packet every week. If he does go to America then it is basically because he knows he doesn’t have the quality to perform in the Premier League anymore or just simply he doesn’t want as much pressure on him. He is also 12/1 in some bookmakers to retire before the start of the season which also wouldn’t surprise me as at times he does seem more interested in his horses and will just concentrate on that.

It would be a sad end for a player that scored 40 international goals for England so I personally hope he does get another club in England even if it is just in the Championship just so he can prove to everyone once again that he needs to be feared. At the minute there are a lot of jokes about his injuries and the amount of time he spends on the bench but if he gets a chance in the box, nine times out of ten he will score.

The curse of Aaron Ramsey

Sunderland are beating Arsenal at the Stadium of Light 1-0 and Aaron Ramsey prepares to come on, nothing strange about this so far, he comes on and equalises and the Arsenal fans celebrate the goal like it was any other but then some Gunners fans begin to realise that whenever Ramsey gets on the score sheet someone famous dies. Obviously this is just a strange coincidence but hours after Ramsey scored, Whitney Houston tragically dies. I am not making a joke out of her death by any means as she was a fantastic singer and one in a million but she became the next victim of the curse.

It all goes back to a game against Manchester United when the young Welshman scored the only goal in a 1-0 win on the 1st May. The very next day, the American government announce that their troops killed Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan. There is no connection between these two events and they will have been in the same newspaper but one story on the front page and the other on the back page.

On the 5th October, Steve Jobs, one of the main men at Apple tragically lost his battle against cancer, yet again no connection to Ramsey but the day before he scored in a 2-1 defeat at White Hart Lane against Tottenham Hotspur. Still nobody would even think about putting these stories together but it is a very strange pattern developing.

And it continued after he scored the only goal in the game against Marseille in the Champions League, Colonel Gaddaffi’s death was announced. Now people are starting to put two and two together and thinking that he is a curse and whenever he scores somebody famous will die.

But surely this is all just a mad coincidence and they aren’t seriously connected as the player himself had nothing to do with anything that happened to these people. However, some people are taking it even further than this and saying he doesn’t even have to score to make something happen in the world because when he hit the post against Manchester City, the next day Kim Jung Ill died. Obviously people are just jumping on the bandwagon and now trying to find things and in my opinion if you look hard enough you will probably find something somewhere, like in this case, he has hit the post on other occasions and nothing has happened.

But the one that really caught my attention about this curse was the day he suffered a double fracture in his right leg, there was a massive earthquake in Chile which devastated many people’s lives and killed 525 people. I have no idea why it keeps happening when Ramsey scores but it has to be a coincidence it cannot be anything else.

I bet the next time he scores, on every social network site and forums people will be asking who is next? Because now it has made the news and a lot of people are talking about it.

David Beckham signs new contract for LA Galaxy

David Beckham has signed a new two year contract at LA Galaxy ending speculation  that he could be joining a European club.

Beckham has played 81 games for the American side scoring 12 goals and providing 28 assists. He went to America to raise the profile of the game over there and it is debatable whether his arrival has had an impact however one thing that has changed is that now players coming to the end of their careers are now looking for one last big pay cheque by going over there. The most notable being Thierry Henry and Robbie Keane but both of these have returned on loan to Premier League clubs, Henry rejoining Arsenal and Keane joining Aston Villa.

Also what is worth noting is that LA Galaxy have given Beckham permission to play for Great Britain in the Olympics if he is selected by Stuart Pearce as one of the three over age players. This must have clinched the deal for the former Manchester United midfielder as he had reportedly turned down a move to PSG because of family reasons which would suggest that Victoria and the rest of the family are very happy in LA.

However, the only negative he will see is that surely now he is staying with Galaxy he has almost certainly ruled out any chance of being selected for Euro 2012 but I have a suspicion that with all the work he put in to get the Olympics in London in 2012 he would prefer to be playing for Great Britain as Stuart Pearce has already said anyone going to the Euros won’t be selected.

Even though he is playing in a league that is well below the level he could still play at, he has made a good choice as he is trying to do good in the game by getting more people in America involved in the sport instead of it being behind American Football, Basketball, Baseball and possibly even Hockey. Only a small minority play soccer in American and if they could get more players involved they would produce some of the best players in the world just because of the sheer size of the country.

Back to the former England captain, it would have been good to have seen him back playing in the Premier League before he retired but that seems unlikely now. He did say he wouldn’t play for another club in England apart from Manchester United and he must have been thinking after watching Paul Scholes return and some bets (yes actual money) being placed on Phil Neville to return from Everton, that Sir Alex Ferguson may be tempted to pick up the phone and give him one final chance at Old Trafford.

It would not be surprising to have to call him Sir David Beckham in years to come as his services to football, charity and getting the Olympics to London have been nothing short of outstanding. He has always been a model professional and always wore the shirt of whichever team he was playing for with pride.

Finally can anyone remember a better moment in the last 20 years for England when he scored that penalty against Argentina in the 2002 World Cup? Because I can’t and for this moment alone he should be remembered as a fantastic player and captain for England.
